US-based church to build a university at Denkyira Domenasi

The Fellowship of Joy Church in Grand Prairie, Texas, in the US has pledged to establish a Practical Christian University at Denkyira Domenasi in the Central Region.

The project is being financed from its Missions Fund for three years.

Nana Kwame Tufuor, also known as Dr Scott Camp, Founder and Senior Elder of the Fellowship announced this at a fund-raising banquet in Texas.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Church and emailed to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Thursday.

He said the university would start with three programmes; School of Nursing School of Communication Studies and School of Ministry.

Phase one of the project would include construction of the School of Nursing with a Clinic.

Nana Tufuor said the decision to establish the university was necessitated by a publication in February this year, that the entire Upper Denkyira West District with a population of 55,000 had only one medical practitioner, four midwives, and a nurse to patient ratio of one to 2,243.

Nana Tufuor who is also the Nkosuohene, (Chief of Development) of Denkyira Domenasi, stressed the importance of investing in education for the next generation adding that all believers should endeavour to win souls for Jesus Christ.

Mr Ernest Baidoo, Chief Executive Officer of UTC Distribution in Arlington, Texas, promised to build a cafeteria and a kitchen for the university at an estimated cost of $80,000.

Twenty-two members of the Fellowship pledged to finance construction of the clinic.

The chiefs and people of Denkyira Domenasi released the land in August last year for the project.

Dr Kwadwo Adom Tufuor, a native of Upper Denkyira West District, and a Pastor of the Church, said the project would create jobs for the youth in the area.

He expressed appreciation to the church and the donors for their assistance to Ghanaians to improve their living standards.
