MEST to honour Ghanaian scientists
The Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology is to honour a number of Ghanaian scientists, men and women who have contributed significantly to the promotion of Science in Ghana.
The event which has been scheduled for the Banquet Hall, State House, Accra would climax the maiden edition of the Ghana Science Congress (GSC) to be held from August 2- August 5,2011 on the theme: “ Water, Sanitation And Environment: Securing Our Future Through Science.”
A statement from the Secretariat of the Congress, which has Professor Marian Ewurama Addy as Chairperson of the Planning Committee, is inviting nominations from individuals, institutions and the public to reach the Secretariat at the Ministry not later than April 22.
The categories include Research Scientist Award, Technologist Award, Young Scientist Award, Sponsors Award and the National Best Scientist (Presidential) Award.
The statement said explained that Research and Technologist Awards are restricted to work done in Ghana by Ghanaians in areas relevant to the theme of the congress.
It added that there would also be sponsors awards, for institutions that sponsor the advancement of science and technology (that is scientific research and commercialisation of research output) in Ghana while the National Best Scientist (Presidential) Award and the Young Scientist Award may come from all disciplines of science, technology and engineering.
The statement said nominees for the Research Scientist should submit five recent publications of distinction in the area of the theme and curriculum vitae (CV) while those for the Technologist must submit evidence of work done.
It said those for the Sponsors Award are to name beneficiaries and details of sponsorship with 10 publications of verifiable evidence of work done in the area of science, technology and engineering to be submitted for the Presidential Award category.
In the Young Scientists Award, nominees should include two recent papers/publications of distinction in the disciplines of science, technology and engineering.
Nominees should not be below 35 years.
