Let us make education a key to success – Union

Mr Abraham Jeffrey Borkettey, Local President of the Kumasi Polytechnic Chapter of the Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students (GNUPS), has urged his colleagues  to consider education as the key to successful life and work assiduous towards that.

He said: “We need to make informed decisions about our own future and stop all other forms of ungodly acts and lifestyles such as drug abuse, robbery, vandalism and rape that might ruin our lives or create a bad name for the country.

“We should be responsible in our daily activities and in life,” he added.

Mr Borkettey was speaking at the 34th Annual (GNUPS) Week Celebration at the Kumasi Polytechnic under the theme: “Deepening Democracy in Africa, the Role of the Ghanaian Youth”.

Activities planned to mark the occasion included, talks on health issues, sporting activities, socialization and thanksgiving service.

Mr Borkettey said democracy thrived effectively on functional literacy and was a powerful weapon that could be used to transform society for the better.

He called for quality educational programmes for the polytechnics to ensure job marketability and international recognition.

Mr Borkettey appealed to African Governments to take bold steps in solving the recent violent conflicts in Libya and in La Cote d’Ivoire to ensure peace in those countries.

Mrs Cynthia Osei, Dean of Students Affairs and Director of Communications Skills, urged the students to take their studies seriously and let punctuality be their guiding principle.
