Police hands over suspected smuggled cocoa to CMC

The Half Assini Police on Thursday handed over the 528 bags of cocoa arrested by the Anti-smuggling Task Force at Elubo, to the officials of the Cocoa Marketing Company Limited in Takoradi for safe-keeping.

The Jomoro District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) John Fugurson Dzineku who made this known to the Ghana News Agency said the product have been handed over to the Company because they were perishable items.

He said the police took that decision pending its investigations after which it would be released to the rightful owners.

DSP Dzineku said the driver Mr Mordzinuz Dzidzornu Kokou and his mate Amega Kwame both Benin Nationals are assisting them in their investigation.

Mr Michael Sem Annor, Western Regional Manager of the Company received the items.

The Cocoa was arrested last Monday at the Elubo town by the Anti-smuggling Task force operating in the Jomoro District, after it had been examined and cleared as Cocoa Cakes on transits from Cote D’ Ivoire to Benin.
