Two Ivorian women in Ghana quarrel over political differences

Two Ivorian asylum seekers wearing T-shirts with the embossment of the rival Heads of State of their embattled West African nation, engaged in a quarrel at the Takoradi Market Circle in the Western Region on Friday.

One of the women was wearing the T-shirt of the internationally acclaimed leader Alassane Quattara and the incumbent President Laurent Gbagbo, attracting a huge crowd.

Some sympathisers at the scene had to separate the two furious political rivals who were at the verge of exchanging blows.

In a related development the twin city of Sekondi-Takoradi has been inundated with a numbers of Ivorians who are staying in hotels and rented apartments as a result of the heightened political upheaval in their country.

Majority of the asylum seekers are being accommodated at the Ampain Refugee Camp in the Ellembelle District and Eagle Star Reception Centre at Elubo in the Jomoro District.

They are being catered for by the UNHCR, National Disaster Management Organisation and Ghana Refugee Board and some donor agencies.
