Ghanaian Assistant referee selected for CAF U-20 Championship

Assistant referee Alidu Salifu Malick has been selected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the impending African Youth Championship slated for South Africa from 17 April to 2 May, 2011.

The 38-year old is amongst nine assistant referees penciled down by the continent’s soccer governing body for the youth tournament.

Information gathered by GNA Sports has it that Malick’s selection was based on his performance over the past few years.

Malick becomes the first Ghanaian match official to officiate at a major continental championship this year after there was no representations at the Africa U-17 Championship and the African Nations Championship (CHAN) held in January and February in Rwanda and Sudan respectively.

The list of match referees’ is dominated by the ‘new generation’ with renowned faces such as Eddy Maillet of Seychelles, Malian Coulibaly Koman, South African duo Damon Jerome and Daniel Bennett amongst others.

The selected referees are Benouza Mohamed (Algeria), Volgraaff Daniel (South Africa), Badara Diatta (Senegal), Aguidissou Crespin (Benin), Abdel Gadir Badr Eldin (Sudan), Chaaban Ramadan Hamdy (Egypt) and Bangoura Aboubacar Mario (Guinea).

The Assistant referees are Benarous Mohamed (Algeria), Siwela Zakhele Thusi (South Africa), Yeo Sunguifolo (Côte d’Ivoire), Bouende Malonga (Congo), Kanyenye Lonngional John (Tanzania), Tesfagiorgis Berhe (Eritrea) and Traore Fousseyni (Mali).

Ghana’s Black Satellites are housed in Group B alongside Nigeria, Cameroon and Gambia whilst hosts South Africa, Lesotho, Mali and Egypt make up Group A.
