English Premier League Boss to help revive Ghana’s League
Chief Executive of the English Premier League, Richard Scudamore is expected to visit Ghana to help in the restructuring of the local Premier League in the country.
The nation’s elite League has for some time now been blighted by several factors and has become ‘less attractive,’ to football fans, a reason which has compelled the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to hand the timely invitation to the Premier League boss to assist in the revival of the sport.
Kwesi Nyantakyi, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) who said this at a forum in Accra said his outfit held a meeting with Scudamore in London on the sidelines of the international friendly between the Black Stars and their English counterparts.
He said the EPL boss will soon visit to help fashion out and draw a strategy to improve the fortunes of the League, which is suffering from poor attendance, insufficient finances and poor officiating.
The GFA President said this forms part of discussions held with the Football Association (the FA) with respect to improving the game on the local scene.
With the EPL regarded as the most popular football league in the world, Nyantakyi is convinced the presence of the Chief Executive of the English League will greatly aid in the revival of the dwindling fortunes of the elite league.
The EPL Chief Executive will be expected to meet with the Premier League Clubs and other patrons and organize workshops in areas of marketing and sponsorship, amongst others aimed at raising the standard of the game.
Nyantakyi, seeking for re-election for a second term observed that the League has suffered challenges as a result of poor officiating, quality of infrastructure and the early exodus of players.
He said the early departure of players abroad was disturbing and for that the GFA is devising a plan to curb that canker which is eating into the growth of the game on the local scene.
Nyantakyi has been declared the only candidate to contest the GFA Presidential Poll slated for April 28 at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, Prampram.
