Regulatory bodies and law enforcement agencies must ensure public safety
The Executive Director of the Bureau of Public Health, Safety and Environment, a non-governmental organisation, Mr Davidson Akwada, has stressed the need for regulatory bodies to ensure the safety of members of the public.
To this end, he said, they should execute their mandate without fear or favour and by doing away with all forms of unethical behaviours.
Mr Akwada who made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Tema said, he was of the view that the only way to ensure the safety of the public and the environment was for those in authority to come out with proactive initiatives.
He expressed grave concerns about the recent cholera outbreak in some parts of the country and expressed the hope that health authorities would in future, take to prevent the epidemic.
On road accidents, Mr Akwada urged the National Road Safety Commission and the other stakeholders to adopt drastic measures that would help minimize road fatalities.
He urged Ghanaians to show commitment and urgency to issues of safety, public health and the environment.
He advised those in authority to educate the citizenry on their rights and responsibilities, to ensure that they did the right thing at the right time.
He commended the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) for taking bold decisions in recent times to ensure the safety of the public and the environment.
