Ghana to seek international assistance over Dagbon crisis
President John Evans Atta Mills has reiterated his government’s commitment to find the murderers of the late Ya-Na Yakubu Andani, the overlord of Dagbon, saying that would include seeking international assistance.
“We shall search and search and search until justice is found for the people of Dagbon,” President Mills assured on Wednesday when he paid separate courtesy calls on the Gulkpegu regent Na Safianu Abu and the Dakpema Mohammed Alhassan Dawuni on the first day of his four day visit to the Northern Region.
The President is in the region to inspect on-going development projects, to commission some of the projects and also to see the progress of his government towards meeting the needs of the people.
The President commended the people of the Tamale Metropolis for the rousing welcome they gave him and assured them that his government would not let them down.
He said when the NDC took over the mantle of political administration it tried to find the perpetrators of the murder of the Ya-Na by arresting 15 persons who were put before court.
President Mills said justice was the foundation of human development and that Government shall comb high and wide until the truth was found.
“Your sorrows are our sorrows, your delights ours, we would not rest until we find the people who killed the Ya-Na,” he repeated.
God would also help us to find the killers of Ya-Na, the President added.
Dakpema Mohammed Dawuni expressed gratitude to the President and said he was keenly monitoring the progress of development projects and programmes by the Government.
He appealed to the Government to return state acquired lands that had not been put to use to the chiefs and their original owners.
He called also on the Government to provide tractors to assist farmers in the region to help to boost food production.
The Gulpegu regent on his part urged the President to help to find a lasting solution to the Dagbon crisis.
At the Tamale Teaching Hospital, President Mills inspected on-going construction works and urged the contractor to ensure that the project was completed on schedule.
The President commissioned a hostel facility at the cost of GH¢1.4 million funded under the GETfund at the University for Development Studies (UDS).
