Teachers ask for salary arrears after Single Spine Salary migration
The Ghana National Association of Teachers on Monday requested the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to give a definite statement on when salary arrears would be paid to teachers.
A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mrs Irene Duncan Adanusa, General Secretary of GNAT, said some employees of the Ghana Education Service (GES) got some increases in their salaries based on their placement on the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS) in March this year but the government had not paid their arrears.
The Statement said GNAT had already written to the Commission on the issue but the “Government has decided not to pay the arrears to teachers”.
“Considering the anxiety and nervousness on the teachers’ front concerning the issue of salary arrears, GNAT is requesting that your Office comes out with a definite statement as to when the arrears would be paid to teachers,” the statement told the Commission.
The Government fixed the effective date for payment of wages under the SSSS for January 2010.

Uncle Atta ,kindly pay our arrrars to us,Ghanaian teachers are suffering.
Teachers have been cheated for sometime now.The 15% retention premium is not enough to retain teachers. The more you serve in teaching, the more poorer you become.Because borrowing becomes part of your life.(“He who goes borrowing, goes sorrowing”).
For me, i am tired of both GNAT and government on this killer salary. If they pretend to be paying you, you must also pretend to be working.
Mr president,do you really care about teachers poor salaries? If this government pledged to take care of teachers and today this is what we facing, then God have mercy upon us.GNAT should wake up and fight for the members.Pay the teachers arrears on the single spine.
Your Excellency Prof. Mills, never forget that it is we the teachers who voted you into power and we can equally vote you out of power.
We had trusted and had confided ourselves in you base on your sweet speeches made concerning teachers welfare, but it looks like You are disappointing us. As a matter of fact, You can decide to disappoint we the teachers and in the end we shall see who will be more disappointed.Though You are trying I must say your best is not enough.
Peace be upon you.
ONCE AGAIN THE GOVT TO FAILED TO PAY TEACHERS ARREARS SCHEDULLED FOR DEC 2012 ..IF NO ARREARS PAYMENT THE RESUMING OF SCHOOL TO TEACHERS.
