Ghana’s Ambassador to Mali initiates project on exchange of books
Mr Donald Adabere Adabre, Ghana’s Ambassador to Mali, on Tuesday initiated an exercise called the “Exchange-of-Books Project” in Mali, under which old/used English books from selected Ghanaian schools would be exchanged with similar French books from chosen schools in Mali.
This would among other things promote the teaching and learning of French in second cycle schools in Ghana and do same in Malian schools with the English Language.
A statement issued by the Ghana Embassy in Bamako copied to Ghana News Agency in Accra said it was part of activities aimed at enhancing Ghana’s image in Mali as well as to promote the cordial bilateral relations existing between the two countries.
In a brief ceremony to kick-start the project, Mr Adabere was in Kalanso International School, a private second cycle institution in the Malian capital, Bamako, during which he presented English books mostly authored by Ghanaian and other African Writers, grammar and practical workbooks donated by Jack and Jill School in Accra.
In a similar gesture, the Director of the School, Madam Wessené Diallo, presented Mr Adabere with similar French books donated by her school to Jack and Jill in Accra, to mark the beginning of the Exchange-of-Books Project.
The exercise will be replicated between several Ghanaian schools and their counterparts in Mali.
Mr Adabere expressed gratitude to the management, staff and students of Kalanso International School for being the first to participate in the project.
He indicated that the exercise formed part of the Embassy’s effort to extend the frontiers of corporation between Ghana and Mali.
According to Mr Adabere, the exchange of books marked the beginning of the expected sisterly relationship between Kalanso and Jack and Jill.
He intimated that both schools had expressed interest to engage in a twinning programme under which students and teachers from both institutions would exchange visits and tour each other’s country.
Mr Adabere later presented to the school a Certificate of Recognition and some audio-visual materials from Jack and Jill to enable the two schools begin their sisterly exchanges.
He also took time to tour the computer laboratory of the School and interacted with some of the students.
Mr Tijani Fofana, Coordinator of English Language Club at the school, on behalf of management, expressed appreciation to Mr Adabere for having accepted Kalanso as the first Malian school to participate in the project.
He intimated that the idea about sharing and exchanging books would ultimately lead to sharing and exchanging knowledge and insight.
Mr Fofana said both Jack and Jill School and Kalanso would be the mutual beneficiaries of the upcoming twinning programme and praised the project as being a good example of South-South Cooperation.
Mr Adabere was accompanied by Mr Daniel Okaiteye-Blessyn and Mrs Joyce Asamoah-Koranteng, both officials at the Embassy.
