TEWU/FUSAG gives government ultimatum

The Tertiary Education Workers Union (TEWU) and the Federation of University Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSAG) have warned of industrial unrest if they are not migrated to the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS).

The two bodies said they stand by the July 31 deadline.

Mr Paul K Manu, who chairs the two labour associations at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, told a press conference in Kumasi that the patience of members was running out and would no longer accept excuses.

He said the two unions had directed its members to hoist red flags on their campuses nationwide to signal the seriousness of the threat.

Mr Manu complained that since 2009, their members had not enjoyed any increment in their salaries because they were made to believe that the SSSS would meet their aspirations.

He said the delay in adjusting the salaries of the members had worsened their economic situation.
