120 health extension workers posted to health facilities

Alhaji Nurudeen Issah, Deputy Central Regional Co-ordinator of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), has warned health extension workers posted to health facilities to work hard and deliver quality health care to the people.

He said they were posted to assist doctors, nurses and paramedical staffs of hospitals and not to show disrespect to them.

Alhaji Issah gave the warning at the investiture of 120 health extension workers after they had completed a six months training course at Agona Swedru.

About 25 dressmakers also graduated and each received a sewing machine from the government to start their businesses.

Alhaji Issah urged them to upgrade themselves at the various nursing training institutions to become full health professionals.

Mr Emmanuel Kweku Tetteh, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), advised the trained health officers not to be over excited about their new position but to use it as a stepping stone to further their profession.

He said the government spent money to train them and therefore called for hard work to justify the investment made in them.

Mr Richard Roland Acquaah, Agona West Municipal Coordinator of NYEP, said new models such as Information Communication and Technology (ICT), auto mechanics, hairdressing, dressmaking, road maintenance and youth entrepreneurial development have been added to the programme.

He said under the entrepreneurial programme, beneficiaries would be given credit facilities from the government to undertake their businesses and urged them to form co-operatives to enable them receive their share on time.

Mr Acquaah said the health extension workers had already been posted to the Agona Swedru government hospital and other sub districts health facilities.

Dr Nii Adjei Adjetey, Agona West Municipal Director of Health Services, commended them for their hard work and desire for the health profession and urged them study hard to become full-time nurses.
