Ministry of Information donates vehicle to NMC
The Ministry of Information on Wednesday, presented a Toyota Prado vehicle to the National Media Commission (NMC), to help it discharge its duties.
Making the presentation, Mr John Tia Akologo, Minister of Information, said the government appreciated the efforts of the media, adding that, the vehicle would enhance the work of the NMC.
The Minister said government would ensure freedom of the press and urged the media to be objective.
He stressed that the vehicle was just the beginning of government’s plan to assist the NMC to discharge its duties and gave the assurance that efforts were being made to resolve the accommodation problems of the Commission.
The Minister stated that the Ministry had asked the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing to help provide accommodation for the Commission.
Receiving the vehicle, valued at $60,000, Mr Kabral Blay Amihere, Chairman of NMC, expressed gratitude to the government for the kind gesture.
He said the Commission was responsible for monitoring the media in the country to ensure their freedom, as well as professionalism but its offices needed to be refurbished to improve the work environment.
The chairman stated that the NMC had succeeded in ensuring plurality of the media, which was good for democracy, adding that, it was also committed to ensure that the media reported professionally for peace in the country.
