Dental Clinic of Koforidua Hospital introduces appointment system

The Dental Clinic of the Koforidua Regional Hospital has introduced the system of appointments for its services to reduce the time spent by patients.

Under the new system, follow-up calls are made to the patients to confirm their appointments.

Upon confirmation, the medical cards of the patients are retrieved from the Records Department and kept at the clinic in wait for their arrival.

Those with National Health Insurance Cards submit their insurance forms at the clinic and then are attended to.

The Dental Surgeon of the Clinic, Dr Cardinal Newton, said this at the Mid- Year Performance Review Meeting of the Koforidua Regional Hospital on Thursday.

He explained that the practice helped the clinic to prepare for the patients of the day in addition to those who would report with emergency cases.

Dr Newton explained that the system had also helped to reduce the cases where those with dental problems waited for days before seeking treatment.

He complained about quack dentists who often performed dangerous operations on patients leaving them with cracked and broken teeth.

He, therefore, appealed to the Dental and Medical Council and the law enforcement agencies to help flush them out of the system.

Dr Larbi Addo, the Eastern Regional Clinical Director, encouraged the heads of departments of the hospital to train and share responsibilities among the staff and to find ways of tapping their talents to help overcome the shortage of staff.

He called on the management of public health institutions to be innovative and use some of their resources to solve challenges facing their institutions to improve upon their services.
