Nigeria to import crude oil from Niger

Despite Nigeria being Africa’s leading exporter of crude oil, a lack of investments in the country’s refineries have left Africa’s most populous nation with chronic gasoline shortages.

Now Nigeria is considering an arrangement to import gasoline from neighboring Niger.

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has been speaking to President Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger Republic at the opening of bilateral talks between delegations of the two nations at the State House in the capital Abuja, The Daily Trust reported.

Issoufou told Jonathan that he wanted agreements signed under the auspices of the Nigeria-Niger Joint Commission, which include electricity, water supply for agriculture, information, desert encroachment and joint border patrol, to be implemented, adding that Niger would begin exporting crude oil by the end of the year and that Nigeria’s northern states could begin getting their supply of petroleum products from a refinery under construction in Zinder, Niger.

The Zinder refinery, being constructed by the China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC), has a projected capacity of 1 million tons/annum, or 20,000 barrels per day, and is expected to come online next year at a projected cost of $600 million.

Addressing a common concern of the two countries, food security, Jonathan told Issoufou that Nigeria had plenty of natural gas and was going to establish plants to produce fertilizer, inviting Niger to liaise with relevant officials to ensure that appropriate fertilizer was produced for his nation.

La ck of better infrastructure such as refinery is the reason why Nigeria has to import refine oil from Niger. Is stupidity waste of money. Nigeria could have build refinery years ago if not corruption, greed and lack of vision. No country on earth will be fools as leaders in Nigeria over the years to lead as blind as those leaders.

It is very shameful, our corrupt leaders think they are macho when they are idiots. Successive governments have come and gone without vision for the country. As people’s lives have been destroyed due to selfishness so will God destroy those corrupt polititions

are these leaders humans? or are they fill with empty brains? is there a spirit that is always after them and that also veils them to see beyond their noses. We just have to be praying for them. ocean of natural resources God has given to Nigeria, but our leaders out of selfish gain turn a blind eye on how to develop the resources for benefits of the nation, but thinking or planing to import oil from another nation. It is absolutely riddicle. I pray they have a change of mind before God descends on them like never before. Because God will surely descend on them if nothing is done sooner especially this present government.

Whether it is crude or refined oil that Nigeria would import from poor Niger Republic, it’s a shame of the lowest order. Jonathan ought to know when not to let down the image and pride of the nation. My heart bleeds over this report. I can’t comment further.

It is not enough to lay a curse on the heads of our former leaders for not doing what is right at the right time, but to learn from our past mistakes by encouraging our present leaders to do the right thing. Repair our refineries now, its not too late. Build new ones starting now will save us a lot of stress and unnecessary comments later. “A stitch in time saves nine”

Already Nigeria has no good image any where, shameless leaders without visions. A country without constitution, what we have is a mere written document. How can one even have thought of importing crude oil from Niger? Jesus Christ!!! , oh my GOD Apes in Government both present and past leaders have no vision, agenda or good plans for the citizens of Nigeria. All our refineries are not working, yet we answer giant of Africa. If you really what to know what this hell called a nation is, just remove (GI) from Giant ,and then, you will get ant of Africa. That is what Nigeria is.

There is no reason to be ashamed brothers and sisters. I am from Niger but i lived in Nigeria for almost 10 years. Niger and Nigeria are the same. Just remove ( ia) from Nigeria and you get Niger. The lesson we should all learn here is that if your state is blessed with natural resources today, do not be greedy , but share it cheerfully with the rest of the country because tomorrow others forms of natural resources may be discovered in other states which seem poor now. It’s a matter of exercising a little vision and it is not only leaders who should have a vision , the people also should have a vision because leaders are drawn from the people. as far as i am concerned i think majority of african people have a big problem they need to address quickly. look at Saudi Arabia. They are wealthy because they have oil , still they live in peace . But it doesn’t mean only one tribe lives there or every state in that counrtry has a oil well. We all need to think a little bit and have a little vision brothers and sisters. Thanks.

I’m not surprised. What do you expect from a nation that has its gear permanently on reverse but expecting to make forward progress. Its only a fool that does things the same way all the time but expect a different result. I will be pleasantly surprised if President Jonathan acts differently. Not to heap all the blames on our leaders alone, buts its true that “A PEOPLE DESERVE THE LEADERS THAT THEY GE” Its our luck or misfortune as I should say that we are Nigerians. We are a people living at the bank of fresh streams of water but dying of thirst. Its absurd isn’t it? but that is what it is realy. Many times people call for prayers for the nation but I dare to say that God has done for this nation beyond what its people have or are asking for. Let us play our individual parts well and I tell you Nigeria will be the envy of the world. “LET THE BLACK MAN LEARN TO TALK LESS AND THINK A LOT MORE. HE SHOULD LET HIMSELF BE INSPIRED.
