NDC executives protest against Agona East DCE

The Agona East Constituency Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have expressed concern about what they claimed was “divide and rule tactics” being adopted by the District Chief Executive, Mr Martin Luther Obeng.

They said if Mr Obeng continued with it “it could spell the doom of the NDC party in the 2012 general election and appealed to the President John Atta Mills to act to salvage the party”.

Mr Abednego Afful, Constituency Propaganda Secretary of party, made the allegation at press conference at Asafo in the Agona East District.

He claimed “the arrogant and disrespectful behaviour DCE has exhibited since he assumed office some three months ago does not speak well for the party”.

Mr Afful alleged that on August 6 the DCE threatened to order the arrest of Mr Takyi Nkrumah, Constituency Vice Chairman, during the final funeral rites of Nana Opeey at Agona Akwakwaa without any provocation.

Mr Afful said the DCE has been visiting the delegates without the consent of the constituency executives, a situation which is against the rules and regulations of the party.

He said the executives had sent a petition to the Regional Chairman, the Central Regional Minister and National Chairman of the Party in Accra about the behaviour of the DCE.

Mr Obeng denied all the allegations and said his intention to contest the parliamentary primary had made the constituency executives uncomfortable.

He said he had asked his supporters to remain calm to ensure peace and stability in the constituency.
