Political parties should educate followers on policies and programmes – MP

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa West, Mr Francis Kojo Arthur has urged political parties to educate their followers on their policies and programmes to enable them to speak on tangible issues when the need arises.

He pointed out that because the followers were not conversant with the policies of their parties they resorted to insults when engaged in talk-shows on radios and televisions.

Mr Arthur said the practice did not augur well for “our fledgling democracy”, especially as the election year was drawing nearer.

The MP was addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Abamkrom in the Gomoa West District as part of the celebration of their annual Akwambo Festival.

He appealed to Ghanaians, especially politicians not to take the peace in the country for granted but to ensure that things that disturbed peace were avoided all times.

Mr Arthur said Gomoa Eshiem to Hasowodze road which went through the town had been captured in 2012 budget for reconstruction.

The Presiding Member (PM) of the Gomoa West Assembly, Mr Anthony Eyiah Quansah who represented Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, District Chief Executive urged the people to use the festival to bring about peace and development.

He said the government was constructing a dam on river Ochie at Gomoa Antseadze to provide potable water to alleviate the water shortage problems facing people of Gomoa West and Ekumfi areas.

The PM urged communities in the district to enact bye-laws to prevent children from attending video shows.

Nana Egyin Abam IV, chief of the town, said they had been experiencing water shortages for a long time and appealed to the government to arrest it.

He appealed to the government to construct a six-unit classroom block for the local primary school to accommodate its large pupil population and a KVIP place of convenience.
