Court grants swindler bail

A circuit court in Sunyani presided by Mr. Ekow Mensah, has granted bail to Oppong Kyeremeh, a 31 year old business man, after being charged for defrauding a couple of GH¢138,000.

The accused pleaded not guilty to two counts of defrauding under false pretext and was ordered to reappear before the court on August 17 this year.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Alex Ofosu told the court that Kyeremeh and the complainants; Ms Agatha Mensah and Mr James Mensah, were tenants at Kotokrom near Sunyani.

He said Kyeremeh told the complainants eight years ago that he was travelling abroad but resurfaced in June 2011 with a forged Ghana Ports and Harbour removal items form dated May 20 2011 and endorsed on  October 7.

The prosecutor said Kyeremeh used the forged documents to obtain the consent of Agatha to part with GH¢ 13,000 under the pretext that he (Kyeremeh) had goods at the Takoradi port, which he would clear and bring to her.

Kyeremeh approached Mr Mensah, who is the husband of Agatha and took GH¢800 for the supply of refrigerators which according to him were among his goods.

The prosecutor said Kyeremeh after taking the money went into hiding at Abesim, near Sunyani and the case was reported to the police.
