Three more sports disciplines to participate in 2011 All Africa Games
Ghana has added three more sports disciplines to its contingent that will participate in the 10th All Africa Games in Maputo, Mozambique.
Information gathered from the National Sports Authority (NSA) by the GNA Sports indicates that Cycling, Judo and Tennis has been added to the list of disciplines for the Games.
The latest addition follows protests and agitations from the three Associations over their exclusion from the Games.
With the latest addition, Ghana will now be participating in 16 disciplines instead of the initial 13 as announced by the Council.
According to the information, the decision was taken after a careful consideration of the protests from the three Associations.
The Ghana Tennis Association (GTA) will send two representatives to the Games, whilst the Ghana Cycling association (GCA) is expected to send seven cyclists who are reported to have met the required speed for participation with Judo having the prospects of picking medals in the Games hence the decision to include them.
It would be recalled that the three disciplines were conspicuously absent from the list for the Games.
Cycling, according to the NSA placed 13th at the Africa Cycling Championship in Uganda hence they could not make the grade.
Individual cyclists have, however, by their personal speed been able to make up the grade for the event hence the decision to include them to participate in the Games.
Ghana’s contingent is expected to leave for Maputo, Mozambique, via South Africa on August 29.
