Security Games to take place October 21
This year’s edition of the Security Services Sports Association (SESSA) Games will take place from 21-28 October at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.
The 12th of edition of the biennial games, which coincides with the Silver Jubilee of the formation of the Association, which will be held under the theme: “SESSA at 25: Promoting unity through sports”, will be hosted by the Ghana Prisons Service.
Clement Kofi Humado, Minister of Youth and Sports said the event has become a significant part of the national sports calendar having served as a fertile ground for the unearthing of talents for the various national teams over the years.
He expressed the conviction that the silver jubilee edition of the SESSA Games is opportune since it will serve as a platform for the preparation of athletes for future sports events coming on the heels of the National Unity Games and the Ghana Grand Prix.
The eight-day championship will feature teams from the security services made up of hosts Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Armed Forces and the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority.
The Minister assured of his outfit’s support for the competition and to also ensure peace and security for the security services in all their endeavours.
Kofi Bansah, Acting Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service said the Games is primarily aimed at promoting ties of friendship among the security personnel and to enhance the physical and mental well-being of personnel for their duty calls.
Bansah, who is also Chairman of the Security Services Sports Council (SESSCO) commended Government for the tremendous support towards the organization of a successful event.
Participants will feature in disciplines such as football, track and field athletics, handball and hockey, amongst other events.
According to the organizers, the flag hoisting ceremony of the Games will take place on September 22, a Health Walk by participating teams on October 8 and a Cross-Country scheduled for October 15.
The Ghana Police Service emerged winners of the last edition held in 2009.
