Teachers labelled worse offenders in non-registration of motor bikes

Mr. Emmanuel Klugah, the Upper West Regional License Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licenses Authority (DVLA), has labeled teachers as the worst offenders when it comes to the issue of non-registration of motor bikes in the region.

He told the GNA in an interview that only 100 out of the over 800 motors that were sent to the region for teachers are currently registered.

Mr. Klugah expressed concern over the lack of respect for road traffic regulations on the part of both drivers and motorists in the Wa Municipality.

He said the result of this was the increasing rate of accidents recorded every year in the Municipality.

He said this was affecting their work as they had to abandon their official work in order to attend to the numerous accident scenes.

Mr Klugah spoke the activities of tricycles in the Municipality and referred to them as a nuisance to residents and a threat to road traffic regulations.

He said the Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service was not collaborating well with the DVLA to arrest road traffic offenders.

Mr. Klugah noted that the non-registration of motor bikes and non-renewal of motor and vehicle documents among other things denied the government revenue.
