Chief wants traditional values integrated into 1992 Constitution

Nana Kofi Ansah II, Chief of Npakadan and Twafohene of the Akwamu Traditional Area in the Eastern Region, has appealed to the Constitution Review Commission to consider incorporating the country’s traditional values into the 1992 Constitution.

He explained that this would give legal backing to authorities to punish people who flout these values, to promote discipline in society.

Nana Ansah in an interview with Ghana News Agency at Npakadan on Thursday, reminded Ghanaians that democracy did not mean unrestrained freedom or conduct.

He appealed to the Ghana Journalists Association to organize programmes to sensitization its members on the ethics of the profession.

Nana Ansah called on the National Commission for Civic Education to organise forums to educate the people on their rights and responsibilities under the democratic dispensation.

He asked the youth to engage in productive activities instead of involving themselves in acts that could negatively affect their development.
