KMA introduces new transport operating permit
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced the introduction of a new transport operating permit (TOP) as part of measures to check rising indiscipline among commercial drivers.
The permit is a certificate issued to recognize transport operators, indicate that the KMA was aware and had authorized their operations.
A press release signed by Mr Godwin Okumah Nyame, the Public Relations Officer, said it could be obtained from the KMA’s License Office.
It reminded all commercial drivers that driving in the metropolis without the assembly’s driver’s license contravened the KMA’s bye-laws.
It urged those providing commercial passenger transport services to register with their union executives for them to acquire valid KMA commercial driver license.
The release said this would be issued to only those operating from stations with valid TOP.
Enforcement of both the permit and license would start from September 16.
