Principals call for national dialogue on globalization

The Conference of Principals of Education (PRINCOF) has called for a national dialogue on ways of combating the negative effects of globalization.

“Such a dialogue has become necessary to preserve and to transmit the behavior patterns that have marked us out as a people”, Mr Alfred Abugri Ndago, PRINCOF President said at the opening session of its 53rd annual Conference and Workshop underway in Peki.

It was under the theme, “Improved Teacher Education; an Asset for National Development”.

Mr Ndago said globalization had brought, hidden in the pockets of its many benefits, certain subtle negative influences which if not checked can corrupt our young people”.

He said some parents were finding it difficult “to maintain a moral check on the activities and general conduct of their growing children thus running the risk of the children running uncontrollably on the highway of globalization which is not altogether devoid of moral potholes and valleys”.

Mr Ndago appealed to the public especially adults to be mindful of their duty to exert positive influences on young people.

He said it was in this direction that “downright unprintable foul language on our airwaves” is disturbing.

“Freedom of speech should in no way be equated with licentious linguistic behavior as this has the potential of disturbing the peace which we must all strive to preserve,” he said.

“Our Conference wishes to appeal to the Media to ensure that they do not inflame passions by their broadcasts and publications because of the strong influence they wield in society”.
