Kufuor to launch foundation, brings former German President Koehler to Ghana
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor will launch the John A. Kufuor Foundation at a lecture and dinner to be attended by two former heads of state from September 19 to 22, 2011.
The Foundation, an initiative of former President Kufuor, consists of the John A. Kufuor Centre for Leadership, Governance and Development, to be based at the University of Ghana, Legon, and the John A. Kufuor Presidential Library and Museum at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi.
Former President Horst Koehler of the Federal Republic of Germany will cut the sod for the start of work on the Centre at the University of Ghana on September 20 and deliver the inaugural lecture later in the afternoon.
A statement from Mr Frank Agyekum, the Spokesperson of former President Kufuor, said the lecture at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana will be on – “Walking the Tightrope: Balancing State, Market and Society,” will be chaired by Professor Ernest Aryittey, Vice-Cahncellor of the University of Ghana.
Former President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa will be the speaker at a dinner/dance in the evening at the Banquet Hall, State House.
The statement said the three former Presidents will visit the site of the Presidential Library and Museum under construction at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, and lay a plague to mark the occasion on September 21.
They will be received in audience by Prof William Otoo Ellis, Vice-Chancellor of KNUST and interact with faculty members and students.
They will pay courtesy calls on Vice-President John Dramani Mahama at the Castle, Osu, and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manyhia Palace in Kumasi.
