Norwegian company, EMGS wins $5.5m contract to find oil offshore Ghana

Norwegian company, Electromagnetic Geoservices ASA (EMGS) says it has been awarded a survey contract to acquire and process 3D electromagnetic (EM) data offshore Ghana.

The company made the announcement on its website today September 16, 2011 but left out the client who offered the $5.5 million contract. It is believed that the contract might have come from one of these oil companies operating offshore Ghana such as Hess Corporation, Tullow Oil, Lukoil or Eni.

“Data acquisition will be performed by the 3D EM vessel BOA Galatea starting in early October 2011,” said EMGS.

The statement quoted Chief Executive Officer Roar Bekker as saying “We are excited by the prospect of returning to West Africa and applying our latest technology, including full-azimuth 3D EM data acquisition and 3D anisotropic inversion, in this highly prospective region.”

The geophysical company uses its proprietary marine electromagnetic (EM) technology to support oil and gas companies in their search for offshore hydrocarbons.
