Traditional ruler appeals for bridge over river to boost economic activities
The Paramount Chief of Nsein Traditional Area, Awulae Agyefi Kwame II, on Saturday appealed to the government to urgently construct a bridge over River Yangbunli to boost economic activities in the area.
He said due to the dilapidated nature of the bridge, farmers could not transport their produce whenever it rained because the river swelled, resulting in post harvest losses.
Awulae Agyefi kwame made the appeal during the grand durbar of the chiefs and people of Nsein in the Western Region to climax their annual Kundum Festival.
He also appealed to the government to help construct the deteriorated Dadwen-Avrebo-Ahunyame-Adelekezo feeder road, which also becomes impassable when it rains.
The Paramount Chief stated that the people of Nsein and the Region as a whole were fervently looking forward to the fulfilment of the $1.8 billion Chinese loan facility promised the Region for major economic transformation.
He expressed the hope that infrastructural development in areas such as gas processing facilities, railway, roads and expansion of the Takoradi Ports would become a reality.
“We appeal that the Government should do its possible best to honour whatever promise it has made in respect of the Chinese loan facility to continue enjoying our support,” he stressed.
On next year’s general election, Awulae Agyefi Kwame underscored the need for the Electoral Commission to put measures in place early to ensure free, fair and transparent elections to avert any post election conflicts.
He commended the Ghana Rubber Estates limited (GREL) for putting up a health centre at Onzaeyeye that would cater for the health needs of the people of Nsein, Lower Axim, Gwira and Ajommorro who hitherto found it difficult to patronise either Tarkwa or Axim Government Hospital.
He appealed to the government to urgently post health officers there to operate the facility.
The Municipal Chief executive for Nzema East, the Reverend Joseph Ackah Cobbinah, commended the chiefs and people of the area for the peaceful celebration of the festival and prayed for bumper harvest in the coming years.
He said development was a shared responsibility and appealed to the traditional authorities to cooperate and support the development agenda of the government.
Rev. Cobbinah said the Assembly’s door was always opened to welcome all positive ideas that would engender the development of the area and advised the youth to acquire employable skills to make them economically viable.
He pledged the Assembly’s commitment towards the construction of all dilapidated bridges, schools as well as reshaping and tarring of major roads in the area to boost economic activities.
