Ghanaians asked to support government to strengthen NYEP
Mr Clement Kofi Humado, Minister of Youth and Sports, has asked Ghanaians to support government as it worked to strengthen and expand the National Youth Employment Programme.
He said the NYEP had helped to reduce poverty among the youth and improved their living conditions.
The Minister made the call in a speech read on his behalf at the passing out of about 276 youth, who underwent six weeks training under the NYEP’s Youth in Fire Safety and Prevention module, in Kumasi.
The beneficiaries, who were drawn from the Ashanti and Brong Ahafo Regions, constituted the first batch of 1,000 young people expected to be trained under the module.
Mr Humado said that since 2009 the Programme had recruited about 179, 560 youth under various NYEP modules.
He said that the NYEP had helped to develop the health and educational sectors as well as improved in security and sanitation.
Mr Humado said that the NYEP would support government to build a stronger economy to create more jobs for the youth.
He tasked the participants to be duty-conscious and law-abiding in the discharge of their work.
Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister, asked them to educate the public on fire safety and prevention to save lives and property.
