Court convicts driver for using car without fire extinguisher

Francis Twum, a driver, was on Wednesday convicted to a fine of GH¢600.00 by a Koforidua Circuit Court for use of a motor vehicle without fire extinguisher and advance warning triangle.

Twum would in default serve a jail term of two years in hard labour.

Police Chief Inspector Michelle Mantey told the court presided over by Mrs Wilhelmina Hammond that on October 07 personnel from the Eastern Regional Command of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit went on a motor check at Apedwa on the Accra-Kumasi highway.

When they stopped Twum’s vehicle they found it had no fire extinguisher and advance warning triangle.

In a related development, a driver has been convicted for using an expired certificate.

Kofi Opoku, a driver, was on Wednesday convicted to a fine of GH¢300.00 or in default serve a jail term of three months in hard labour by a Koforidua Circuit Court for use of motor vehicle with expired road worthiness certificate.

Opoku pleaded guilty.

Police Chief Inspector Michelle Mantey, prosecuting, told the court that on October 07 Police personnel from the Eastern Regional Command of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit went on a motto check at Apedwa on the Accra-Kumasi highway.

The bus driven by the convict and a check revealed that its road worthiness had expired.
