Africa needs leaders with integrity – Reverend Asante

The Vice Chancellor of the Ghana Baptist University College, Reverend Steve Asante, has blamed the slow pace of Africa’s progress on dishonesty and lack of integrity on the part of leadership.

The Vice Chancellor cautioned that the continent would wallow persistently in poverty and fail to achieve its overall development agenda if the leaders refuse to change their attitudes.

Rev Asante, who was addressing the sixth matriculation ceremony of the College in Kumasi on Friday, asked African leaders “to be of good character to achieve political, religious and socio-economic transformation.”

Five hundred and twenty-two students were admitted to pursue degree, diploma and certificate programmes in Theology, Music, entrepreneurship, Marketing, Banking and Finance.

Rev Asante called on institutions of higher learning to work harder to assist students to be God-fearing and uphold the values of honesty, integrity and discipline and added that “academic excellence must go hand-in-hand with good character.”

Rev Dr Kwadwo Osei-Wusu, President of the College, said the institution was working with foreign universities to initiate exchange programmes for students, staff and faculty to promote information-sharing and technology transfer for their mutual benefits.
