Togbe Sri wants Indian help to develop Keta area
Togbe Sri III, Awomefia of Anlo, has appealed to the Indian government to help woo Indian entrepreneurs to invest in the agro-processing and tourism industry in the area.
He said every year tonnes of tomatoes go waste because of lack of markets, throwing the toils of farmers to waste, and that the huge potentials in the tourism sector was also largely untapped.
Togbe Sri made the appeal when Mrs Ruchi Ghanashyam, outgoing Indian Commissioner to Ghana, called on him at Anloga to bid him farewell.
He lauded Ghana-Indian relations and the bonds between the Indian High Commission and the Anlo area which, he said, resulted in the building of an eye clinic at the Keta Municipal Hospital with Indian funding.
He said he was also grateful for the Indian scholarship scheme for some youth from the area under which some young people are currently studying in India.
Togbe Sri commended Mrs Ghanashyam for facilitating the posting of two Indian Eye Specialists to the Eye Clinic and suggested a cultural exchange programme to deepen the ties between the Anlo area and India.
Mrs Ghanashyam who was made a Queen of Nolopi, a town in the area last year, described the Anlo area as her second home.
She said an Indian agriculturist with specialty in tomatoes had visited the Anlo area under an Indian government sponsorship to evaluate potentials in the area and thatthe specialist had said the area had the potential for a successful tomatoes industry.
The two exchanged of gifts.
