Finance Ministry holds discussions on 2012 budget preparation
The Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning as part of the 2012 budget preparation and in a bid to deepen the participatory budget process has held discussions with key stakeholders in the country chaired by Dr Kwabena Duffuor, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning.
A statement from the Ministry copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra on Friday, said the meeting discussed the macro-economic performances of the country in 2011.
Other key issues discussed include the impact of the Single Spine Salary Structure on government expenditure, the contribution of gold mining and other extractive industry to the country’s economy; private sector and employment generation, and support for the private sector.
It said Dr Duffuor reiterated Government’s commitment to ensuring fiscal consolidation, and indicated that government would prioritise and undertake strategic infrastructural projects in 2012, to be anchored by the China Development Bank loan to support private sector growth for employment generation, to be complemented with social intervention programmes.
The discussions also acknowledged the significant progress of the economy over the last three years and asked Government to ensure more transparent and open dialogue in the determination of strategic policies and choices for development.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Association of Ghana Industries, Trades Union Congress, the Ghana Stock Exchange, Private Enterprises Foundation, and Integrated Social Development Centre.
Key personalities that participated were Dr. Joe Abbey of the Centre for Policy Analysis (CEPA), Mr. Kwadwo Asamoah of the TUC and Dr. Fritz Gockel of the University of Ghana.
