Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly warns traders against extortion

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced that it had approved that a parcel of land between the Sofoline Interchange and the Kwadaso Market in Kumasi be developed by individuals or group of persons as a market.

A statement signed by Mr Edward Afari Agyem, Metro Coordinating Director, copied to GNA in Kumasi on Friday, advised traders, especially those evicted from the Kumasi Race Course area to desist from dealing with persons, who might take advantage of their situation and dupe or extort money from them under the pretext of allocating parts of that land to them.

It expressed concern about the alarming rate at which some people were illegally placing kiosks, containers and other structures on the land.

The statement warned those who had erected such structures to remove them with immediate effect or have them demolished.

It reminded the public that placing kiosks and containers or any structures in any part of the city without permit from the KMA was a violation of the assembly’s by-laws and asked traders to comply with the directive in their own interest.
