No death recorded at Koforidua Central Hospital during doctors’ strike
No death has been recorded at the Koforidua Central Hospital since the Medical Doctors began their strike action.
Patients with emergencies at the surgical wards and the maternal departments are being attended to with urgency even though most wards at the hospital such as the male ward and the children’s ward are empty.
This came to light when Dr Kwasi Akyem Apea-Kubi, Eastern Regional Minister, went on a general inspection at the hospital to assess the situation there since the doctors went on strike.
Dr Apea-Kubi used the opportunity to entreat all Government Health Assistants to get ready for resumption of their work of attending to patients as government was “working urgently to resolve and bring an end to the doctors’ strike latest by next week.”
He said, “Get the beds ready to receive the patients who would be coming; I assure you that by next week things will be put in place for the doctors to actively resume work.”
He indicated that Government was committed to ensuring that health officials and doctors in the country were not “short changed” and that the authorities were working hard to solve all problems once and for all to avoid any further strike actions in future.
Dr. Apea-Kubi eulogized the health workers for their hard work even in the absence of their doctors and urged them to continue with the good work they were doing.
He entreated doctors to end the strike since Government was not sleeping to ensure that all negotiations were made to solve the issue immediately.
“However, it will be counterproductive when at the end of the day, you get all your money but precious lives are lost,” he said.
