Workshop on Pay and Productivity opens in Accra

The Ghana Employers Association on has organised a workshop to solicit views on how to benchmark salaries with productivity at the enterprise level to enable businesses to become more competitive by increasing output per worker.

Speaking at the opening of the workshop in Accra, Mr Antwi Boasiako Sekyere, Deputy Minister of Employment and Social Welfare, advised participants to dispassionately discuss whether more pay increased productivity over the long term period or not.

“Another critical area which I hope will be touched on at this workshop is to look at alternative ways of rewarding labour,” he said.

Mr Sekyere called on operators of Ghanaian businesses to be more innovative in their recruitment and retention strategies to remain competitive on the world market.

Participants, drawn from the fields of business, academia, entrepreneurship and labour, are expected to provide solutions to fashion out a pay policy and reward management systems that supported organizations’ strategic and short-term objectives for skilled, competent, committed and well-motivated workforce.
