New schemes crafted into police training for more efficiency
The Ghana Police Service on Friday said it has injected more disciplines and schemes into the Service’s recruit training to enable it to meet the exigencies of modern day policing.
Mr David Asante-Apeatu, Director-General, Research, Planning and ICT of the Ghana Police Service, who announced on Friday, said the lessons included knowledge of French and ICT as well as out of training depot attachments as part of the six-month rigorous training.
Mr Asante-Apeatu was speaking at the passing-out parade of 205 General Recruits at the Volta Regional Police Training School in Ho.
He said today’s policeman must have some knowledge in ICT and some capacity to interact with colleagues in nearby francophone countries.
Mr Asante-Apeatu advised the new Police officers that the Service was undergoing an image enhancing exercise and would not tolerate image denting behaviours.
He said the recruits should adopt positive attitude towards policing, avoid rudeness to win the trust of the public.
Mr Asante-Apeatu said progression in the Service was based on the traditional measures of academic qualification and seniority as well exemplary performance.
The recruits treated the dignitaries, including Alhaji Hamidu Mahama, Deputy Commissioner of Police responsible for Human Resource and Colonel Cyril Necku, Deputy Volta Regional Minister to immaculate silent drills, slow and quick marches.
Eight recruits were awarded for excellence with the overall best recruit going to Otibu Kwaku Gyan.
