People of Manya Krobo celebrate Ngmayem festival
It was a gleeful day for the people of Manya Krobo Traditional Area when on Friday all citizens both at home and from the Diaspora, clad in traditional attire, matched with beads and ornaments, gathered to mark this year’s Ngmayem festival at Krobo Odumase.
The festival, which commenced last Sunday, was characterized by diverse entertainment activities by people from the various areas of the traditional area and attracted students, who joined the celebration even in their school uniforms.
It also attracted prominent personalities from all walks of life, including political, social, and religious and heads.
Nene Sakite II, Konor of Manya Krobo, asked all citizens of Manya Krobo to contribute to the development of the area
He asked the people to engage in scientific agriculture, particularly animal husbandry, fish farming and fruit and crop production to prevent the youth from migrating to the cities for non-existent jobs.
Nene Sakite said the traditional council had established a high school to prepare all failed students, who had failed the Basic Education Certificate Examination to rewrite the examination.
He called on the Government to rehabilitate roads in Manya Krobo to facilitate economic activities and two create one more district in the area.
Nene Sakite also called on the Government to review the country’s mining laws and added “ the laws are too outmoded and are benefiting only specific individuals to the disadvantage of Government and the people. Parliament must revisit these laws so as to enhance the quality of life of the people.”
Dr Kwasi Akyem Apea-Kubi, Eastern Regional Minister, who represented President John Evans Atta Mills, assured the people of Manya Krobo of more Government support and donated 10 crates of assorted drinks and cash to support the celebration.
Madam Samia Nkrumah, Chairman for the Convention People’s Party (CPP), and Member of Parliament for Jomoro, who launched an educational fund established by Nene Sakite , called on the people to contribute towards the fund.
She donated GH¢1,000.00 on behalf of the CPP in support of the fund.
