Taxi driver murdered in Cape Coast

The body of a taxi driver who is believed to have been murdered by those who snatched his car on Friday night has been found near the Cape Coast Technical Institute in Abura, a suburb of Cape Coast.

ASP Daniel Wiafe, Cape Coast District Crime officer, who disclosed this to the GNA in Cape Coast, said the Police had information that a male adult was found murdered and dumped at the Cape Coast Technical Institute.

He said the Police went to the scene and upon inspection of the body, saw marks of violence including deep cuts on the throat and head with the body lying prostrate.

ASP Wiafe said the body was later identified as that of one Samuel Okyere, a worker at the Coca Cola Ghana limited, who normally drives a Kia Safia  Cab with registration number GE 7312-09 after work.

He said the body has been deposited at the Central Regional Hospital for autopsy.

The District Crime Officer said further police investigations revealed that the cab that was snatched got involved in an accident and has been towed to the Cape Coast MTTU.

According to him, after murdering the Taxi driver and stealing the car, they decided to use it for” operations” and in the process, they picked up one Ruwida Bashiru, a waitress at Valentino restaurant at about 0100 who was on her way to Adisadel Estate after close of work.

He said on reaching Adisadel Estate, the driver refused to stop for the Lady to alight but rather sped off towards North Ridge, a suburb of Cape Coast and attempted to snatch her hand bag. Sensing danger, she managed to open the door and jumped out of the moving vehicle  as the taxi run into an articulated truck.

He said on ramming into the truck, the driver and  his other passenger alighted and took to their heels. Mr Bukari Sulemana, driver of the truck with registration number AS 4986 X, reported the matter to police.

He said the police were investigating.
