Fewer jobs but keep increasing access to higher education – Prof Okunade

Professor Bayo Okunade, a Nigerian University Lecturer has advised African governments to keep expanding access to higher education in their countries despite the dwindling opportunities for jobs for graduates.

He explained that those graduates in the current globalization concept could get jobs in other countries.

Professor Akunade who is the director of Distance Education at the University of Ibadan, was speaking to the GNA in an interview at Keta where he led a Nigerian team and a group of Ghanaian collaborators to inspect facilities for a proposed distance education centre at Keta, Ghana.

The Centre to be called Deltas University College, is being established by the University of Ibadan to run degree and diploma courses in the arts and sciences.

He said the continent’s future with a largely uneducated youth was bleak.

Professor Okunade further advised African countries to adopt distance education in the face of rising cost in the orthodox campus tutorial system.

He commended Ghana for its democratic credentials making it an icon on the continent.
