Good governance is path to Africa’s progress – NCCE

Mr Kwaku Appiah Kagya, Kumasi Metropolitan Director of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), has urged members of the District Oversight Committees to intensify public education to help people appreciate the relevance of the APRM.

He said this was necessary to give the citizenry a sense of ownership of the APRM process adding that by doing this, they could regularly assess the performance of government in terms of its leadership and democratic practice.

Mr Kagya said this when addressing a day’s forum held by the Metropolitan Oversight Committee in Kumasi.

The forum was aimed at sensitizing the members on their expected roles and responsibilities in the society.

Mr Kagya said leadership was the main challenge to Africa’s socio-economic growth adding that it was necessary to empower the people and civil society to actively participate in governance.

Mr Emmanuel Edmond Premoh, the Metropolitan Chairman of the Committee, took members through the background and objectives of the APRM and outlined plans to engage the media and help deepen their understanding of the review process.
