Ghanaians must make good use of Peer Review Mechanism – Ambassador Abankwa

A member of the Governing Council of the National African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), Ambassador Alex Ntim Abankwa, has encouraged Ghanaians to appreciate the importance of the APRM programme.

Ambassador Abankwa said this at an APRM Validation Workshop on Draft Governance Report for Agona West Municipality at Agona Swedru.

He said it was only when the people voiced out their problems that the Government could offer answers to them.

The report was prepared by the Agona West Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in collaboration with the Oversight Committee of the APRM in the area.

According to Ambassador Abankwa, poor governance could be attributed to not involving the people in decision making processes, especially when sending projects and programmes to them.

Mr Raymond Kweku Tsotome, Agona West Municipal APRM Oversight Chairman, said the survey covered six traditional areas.

They are Agona Nkum, Agona Swedru, Agona Nyakrom and Upper and Lower Bobikuma.

He said 245 people, including assembly members, traditional authorities, public officials, private sector officials and some individuals were interviewed.

Topics covered include, Democracy and Good Political Governance, Economic, Management, Corporate Governances and Socio-Economic Development.

The Chairman said the draft report would be discussed at the Municipal Assembly General Meeting before forwarding it to the Office of the President through the Central Region Office of APRM.

Mr Emmanuel Tetteh, Chief Executive for Agona West, commended the committee for their good work and expressed the hope it would help the Assembly to improve good governance system in the area.
