Tullow organizes training seminar for 30 local businesses

Tullow Ghana Limited, major operators in the country’s Oil industry, in its determination to implement the local content policy, began a two-day training workshop for 30 business companies drawn from the Western Region on  Thursday in Takoradi.

Addressing the participants, Ms Diana Quashie-Idun, Local Content and Supplier Development Supervisor of TGL explained that the seminar was aimed at building the capacity of the business community to enable them to become part of the supply chain of the company.

Ms Quashie-Idun noted that the local content team would ensure that “Ghanaian companies grow with Tullow Ghana Limited”, as well as building long-term sustainable supplier relationships to benefit from local businesses development.

She said TGL is to ensure that suppliers and contractors were informed on international standards; requirements and best practices so that they would be better placed and set targets to grow their businesses and employ more Ghanaians for shared prosperity.

This, however, required that the people acquired knowledge on the tendering processes and the steps leading up to contract award and safety rules, she added.

Topics treated at the seminar included marketing, exploring business opportunities, advantages of partnership and mergers, financial awareness, market analysis, and environmental health/safety.

Mr Ken Nunoo, Communication Officer of TGL, stressed the need for the local people to acquire skills in all the various sections of the company to be able to execute the job in competency and efficiency.

Mr Nunoo said TGL had gone beyond its main duty of drilling and production of oil in the country and supported communities with development projects in line with its corporate social responsibilities.

Mr Joseph Darkwah also of TGL, made it clear that TGL was the sole company to give contracts, and therefore advised the local companies to register with the appropriate quarters before they would be considered for invitation for interview to the bid for the contract.

Local companies had consistently accused the oil companies operating at the Jubilee Oil Field at Cape Three Points in the Western Region of neglecting them in services that they are capable of handling and rather engaged the services of foreigners.
