We doubt politicians commitment to Volta Region’s development – Togbe Afede XIV

The Volta Regional House of Chiefs on Thursday expressed unhappiness about the lack of commitment of politicians from the region to the development of the area.

“They appear to be singing their masters song and do not care about the welfare of their own people,” Togbe Afede XIV, President of the House said.

He was addressing the third general meeting of the House in Ho.

Togbe Afede said: “We doubt their commitment to the development of the region. Their commitment perhaps is only just to retain their positions.”

He said that lack of commitment, might have accounted for the cutting of the sod for the establishment of the University of Health and Allied Science (UHAS) whereas there was no money for that project.

“We are not happy about developments in the region. Our people keep asking questions about the commitment of our representatives in government and Parliament and we are all not happy about happenings.

“The important thing is that our people want to be respected before and after elections,” Togbe Afede said.

He therefore tasked chiefs in the region to ensure that candidates who would be fielded by the political parties in their constituencies are capable of representing the people.

Mr Alex Segbefia, Deputy Chief of Staff who was at the meeting commended the House for being development oriented.

He apologised for the delay of the official visit of President John Atta Mills to the region and re-assured the people that the Head of State would eventually honour the tour.

Mr Segbefia also reiterated government’s commitment to fulfilling all promises made to the people including the establishment of a state funded university.
