Ghanaian student in India escapes lynching

A 26-year-old Ghanaian student in India was lucky to escape lynching by enraged motorists and passersby, when he was rescued by police, the Times of India has reported.

The student enraged motorists and passersby when he attacked and assaulted policemen on duty.

The student, Ernest Hunno was alleged to have slapped an Assistant Police Inspector and manhandled two other constables of the Cantonments Trafiic Division after he has been arrested for a traffic offence and asked to pay a fine, according to India’s traffic regulations.

He was arrested for the offence of talking on his mobile phone while riding what Indian media reported as a two-wheeler, Thursday December 18, 2008.

His action stopped vehicular flow, and this enraged passersby and motorists. Some got out of their vehicles, took hold of Hunno and started beating him in the middle of the road.

The second year commerce student of a city college was rescued by other police men who came to the scene. After rescuing him, the officers, Assistant Police Inspector (API) M. S. Sawant and constables Kailash Akute, Dattatraya More and P. P. Gaikwad called for calm and issued a warning to the enraged crowd.
