TEWU assures members of salary payment
The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has assured its members that the payment of the 15 per cent “critical Support premium” would be effected alongside their December 2011 Salary.
A statement signed jointly by Mr Peter K. Lumor and Mr Mohammed S. Bogobiri, National Chairman and General Secretary respectively of the union, said the assurance followed a letter it received from the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department
It said initially it would affect 11 classes of workers of the Ghana Education Service (GES) which are the Library, Laboratory, ‘House Mother’ and Conservancy.
The rest are Accounting, Internal Audit, Home Economics, Agriculture, Catering, Tradesmen and drivers.
The statement said authorization for the payment is from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and was received by the Controller and Accountant-Generals’ Department on November 11.
Mr Bogobiri told the GNA that the union was holding negotiations with the Fair Wages and Salary commission on the payment of further 15 per cent critical support premium to another classes of workers in the GES.
He therefore urged such categories of workers to exercise restraint and work hard.
