Ghana’s exports to US doubles, reaches $470m September 2011

Ghana’s exports to the US has doubled within the period of September 2010 to September 2011, according to the US International Trade Commission (USITC) based on latest official data provided by the US Department of Commerce.

The data showed that Ghana’s export value to the US increased from $202.2 million in September 2010 to $470.6 million as at September 2011.

The country’s main products exported onto the US market were agricultural products, forest products, textiles and apparel among others.

In 2009, Ghana exported $134.7 million worth of goods to the US but as at the end of 2010 it rose to $273.4 million, the data showed.

Ghana’s export output had the support of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).

The figures posted showed that Ghana’s export under AGOA including the generalized system of preferences (GSP) increased from $31.1 million as at September 2010 to $195.7 million as at the end of September 2011, up 528%.
