Police Administration prepares for 2012 elections

The Police Administration has mapped out strategies and is putting measures in place to ensure that the  2012 general elections occurs without any major incidents.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Ofosu Mensah Gyeabour, Director-General –Technical, said this at a reviewing passing-out parade of 126 recruits after six months training at the Central Region Police Training School in Winneba on Wednesday.

He said notwithstanding some constraints “we are on top of the situation and are ready for the impending electioneering campaign towards the 2012 general elections”.

DCOP Gyeabour reminded the recruits that the Police profession is a noble one but not without challenges, adding that in the face of logistical constraints, we have sophisticated crimes to deal with.

“Our activities are also subjected to public and media scrutiny who often criticize and accuse us on our flaws”, he said.

He said the Service in a bid to enhance its image, will not spare any personnel whose acts bring the name of the Service into disrepute adding that Ghanaians expect a lot from them and acts of indiscipline and lawlessness will not be countenanced.

He told the recruits that they were passing out at a time very close to Christmas and New Year festivities, a period characterized by an increase in road carnage and crime adding that the police have an enormous task of providing a peaceful, serene and accident free environment for the festive season.

DCOP Gyeabour told the recruits that they will be on eighteen months probation where they be closely monitored, adding that at the end of the period “you would be assessed by your various senior Police Officers under whom you will serve”.

“Those of you who do not make the mark will be discharged from the service,” he warned.
