Police Constable on trial for misconduct
A Policeman said to be attached to the Osu Castle in Accra has been remanded into Police custody by an Aflao Circuit court for alleged misconduct in a village near Denu.
Constable David Alormenu, 35 who has since been withdrawn from the Castle has pleaded not guilty to the count of discharge of firearm without authority, threat of death and causing harm.
He would be brought before the Court on December 13, this year.
Mr. Stephen Wuni, a detective Police Inspector told the Court presided over by Mr. Francis Obiri that on November 1, 2010 Alormenu visited his wife at Akame near Denu and went to a shop at about 1900 hours and bought some items.
He said on coming out of the shop, Alormenu pulled out a pistol and fired a shot into the air to the displeasure of the shop owner and her husband who were restrained by witnesses from confronting him.
Mr. Wuni said the following morning the couple visited the residence of Alormenu’s wife to protest the previous day’s incident but Alormenu picked a quarrel with them and they left.
He said at 1830 hours the same day, Alormenu went back to the shop and fired shots indiscriminately amidst threats to kill the couple and in the process hit the forehead of the shop owner with a flashlight injuring her.
Mr Wuni said the woman reported the matter to the police with four empty pellets as evidence.
Meanwhile, a source close to the Police said Alormenu who had since faced a Police Service inquiry would also face disciplinary action after the trial.
