Court suspends driver for 12 months

A 31 year-old driver, Emmanuel Armah has been suspended from driving for 12 months by a Tarkwa Circuit Court for driving under the influence of alcohol.

In addition the convict, who pleaded guilty was fined GHȼ600 or in default serve four months prison term in hard labour.

Prosecuting Police Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainant Bernice Brago is a city guard officer stationed in Tarkwa.

She said on September 12 around 2030 hours the complainant was on official duty directing traffic at Top line junction on the Tarkwa Takoradi highway.

Inspector Tawiah said Ms Brago observed that Armah who was driving a taxi was not steady on the road.

Sensing danger she arrested Armah and send him to the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) office of the Ghana Police Service in Tarkwa.

Inspector Tawiah said when the accused was tested with the alcohol meter at the MTTU office it read 0.319 which exceeded the prescribed limit of 0.08.

After investigation the accused was charged and processed for court.
